It all started when James Eure opened The Pizza Place in Stephenville, Texas, way back in 1964. He then moved to Austin in 1969, and named his restaurant Mr. Gatti’s to honor his wife’s maiden name. Today, there are about 70 Mr. Gatti’s locations, spread all over Texas and the southeastern US.
